About Frank Moriarty…

I have been writing professionally for four decades, with Aerospace Perceptions now based in Historic New Castle, Delaware – home of the 166th Airlift Wing. As a child I was fascinated with aircraft and the United States space program, growing along with it from the first steps of Mercury and on to the lunar landings of Apollo. Joining this fascination with space travel and exploration was my passion for music, ignited by first hearing The Beatles and later seeing the Jimi Hendrix Experience in concert. This led to many years of writing reviews and articles for a variety of publications, along the way meeting bright lights in the music realm ranging from David Bowie and Pete Townshend to Bruce Springsteen and Grace Slick. My fields of interest expanded to include motorsports and automotive development programs. During my writing career I have authored more than a dozen nonfiction books and contributed articles and commentary to national publications. As a musician - sometimes working under my musical alias Frank Blank – I have recorded albums released both independently and through record labels, performing live in an array of bands and projects. Yet these additional interests never replaced the magnetism of aviation and the space program. My professional involvement in aerospace realms reached a sustained apex through the spring and summer of 2011 when I covered the final flight of the SpaceShuttle orbiter Atlantis, following every step of mission STS-135 – from Vehicle Assembly Building roll-out to being one of the first journalists taken to welcome Atlantis home on the runway of the Shuttle Landing Facility - as the historic NASA space plane program ended. Soon thereafter I initiated Aerospace Perceptions, as a media outlet allowing me to present the storied history of past flights, share excitement about current aviation and aerospace developments, and of course, peer into visions of the future.
